North Huron Reeve wants to do away with Huron Heritage Fund

by Bob Montgomery

North Huron's Reeve says he believes it's time to get rid of the Huron County Heritage Fund.

The Heritage Fund provides a total of $25,000 every year for heritage projects. North Huron Reeve Paul Heffer says, given the current financial pressures facing the county, the Heritage Fund should be eliminated. Heffer suggests it's something that could be brought back in the future, but for now it's something the county can't afford.

Heffer says many of the applications are for projects that aren't really heritage projects and he says some groups come back year after year with applications for funding. He announced at the last county council meeting that he would be bringing forward a motion at the next meeting to have the Heritage Fund eliminated.
