Morris-Turnberry Mayor Has Announced He's Running For Warden Of Huron County

by Bob Montgomery

Morris-Turnberry Mayor Jamie Heffer has announced his intention to run for Warden of Huron County.

Heffer made the announcement at county council's last meeting. He says he's been able to juggle a few things at home to create the time that is required to do the Warden's job. He believes any councillor around the table should be able to do that job and he feels this is the opportunity for him to step into the role. He shared that the major issues facing Huron County are the same issues the rest of the province is dealing with.

“We've got the housing issues, the challenges for our business to get workers to come in and have places to stay so they can take some of the local jobs, the homeless situation as well as a variety of social issues that seem to more frequently be pushed back on the municipalities.” Heffer states that these are not problems that can be solved at the local level, municipalities are going to have to get help from the federal and provincial levels. He says that's more likely to happen during an election year and with that on the horizon at both levels, there is reason to believe that federal and provincial politicians might at least be more willing to listen.

Heffer is not expecting any quick solutions, but municipalities have to set targets and work towards them and be prepared to take small steps. The election of Warden takes place early in December.
