Local Women Wins 100 Mile Ultra Race In Granger, Iowa
by Bob Montgomery
Heidi Meades from Clinton won the women’s division of the 100 Mile Stuffed Turkey Endurance Race in Granger Iowa last month.
She came in at 25:37:57, just under 2 hours ahead of the second place female finisher. Meades says she entered her first Ultra race in 2020 but she's been racing more consistently over the last few years. She ran another 100 mile race in Arizona a couple of weeks prior to the race in Iowa, but the record heat in Arizona prevented her from doing very well there. The climate in Iowa was very similar to what she is used to back home. It was about minus 7 degrees celsius when they started out in the morning but it didn't rain and it wasn't snowing and running for 25 hours as the temperature climbed up to a very comfortable 14 degrees celsius helped everyone gradually warm up. Meades says she hasn't decided when or where her next race will be but she would like to break the 24 hour mark for 100 miles.
Meades and her husband have five children and the whole family runs at different levels. They are also busy managing the Run Parlour running store on the main street in Clinton, just down from the town hall.
