Huron County Museum And Historic Gaol Announce Museum And Culture Strategic Plan

by Bob Montgomery

County Librarian and Director of Cultural Services Beth Rumble says the strategic plan brought the Huron County Museum, Historic Gaol and Cultural Programs together.

Rumble says they conducted a six month public consultation that included an online survey, in person focus groups and some activities at the Museum over March break. The strategic planning team included staff from Cultural Programs and the museum, and a committee to guide the plan so they feel it's very much grounded information from the community and staff. They feel they have very strong strategic plans that will guide their actions over the next five years.

Rumble says the organizations have some differences but are also similar in that they share the same three priorities of Welcome and Inclusive, Story Telling and Capacity and they have unique goals in each of those areas.

Rumble says what they found during the public consultation was there was some confusion about what Cultural Programs did. She explains Cultural Programs has always included Huron County Historic Gaol, which includes the Archives, Huron County Library and Cultural Programming. She says some of things Cultural Programs has done include the Multicultural Festival, various cultural programs and cultural days programming. They're hoping that calling it the Cultural Office will give it a little more physicality and something people can picture. They expect to have a website up shortly.
