High School Art Students Have Used A Road In Clinton As Their Canvas

by Bob Montgomery

Central Huron's Community Improvement Coordinator says the objective was to encourage some of the people who are visiting the arena or the REACH Centre to follow the path up to downtown Clinton.

Angela Smith says art students from both St. Anne's and Central Huron High Schools rotated throughout the day to paint murals on the side of the road near the former swimming pool. The grade nine students started first. The grade eleven and twelve students were painting around eleven o'clock and more grade nine students came back later in the day.

One of the students is Kennedy Boersma, a grade twelve art student at St. Anne's. She says they've never done anything like this before and she sees it as a very cool opportunity, and she's looking forward to seeing the finished project. Another student, also a grade twelve art student at St. Anne's is Gage Hopper-Dale. He feels nursing might be the career he chooses, but he'll also continue to pursue his interest in art. He says one of the things he's really enjoyed about this project is the collaboration between the grade nine to grade twelve students at both St. Anne's and Central Huron. The grade eleven and twelve students chose the designs and then combined some of them for the final project so that aspect was very interesting.

The finished mural can be found on the road leading to the former swimming pool in Clinton.
