Helping Seniors Stay Fit, Healthy and Active in Goderich

by Bob Montgomery

The MPP for Huron-Bruce, Lisa Thompson, has announced The MacKay Centre for Seniors in Goderich will receive just over $51,000 from the Ontario government.

The investment is part of the $15,000,000 announced recently to support all current seniors active living centre programs across the province that connect seniors with resources and activities that help more seniors stay fit, healthy and active in their community. “The MacKay Centre certainly is an important hub of activity in Goderich and sets a high standard when it comes to how a seniors’ centre can positively impact quality of life, enriched with a commitment to activities that bring seniors together,” Thompson shares, “the MacKay Centre organizes services, activities and programs that make sure our seniors stay connected all year long.”

Due to the overwhelming success of Ontario’s more than three hundred seniors active living centre's programming being delivered by municipalities, new changes to the Seniors Active Living Centre's Act, 2017 came into effect this June that enable more types of organizations to deliver seniors active living centre programs. Organizations that deliver seniors active living centre programming contribute 20% of the cost of delivering the program, with the province providing the remaining 80%.
