Goderich Council Will Consider A Veteran’s Crosswalk On The Square After the Downtown Renovations Have Been Completed

by Bob Montgomery

Goderich Mayor Trevor Bazinet says Goderich council will look into the possibility of creating a Veteran's Cross Walk on the Square, but it won't happen this year.

Bazinet says they are aware that other municipalities have created Veteran's Cross Walks in their communities and he's received requests from some residents that Goderich should have one too. But Bazinet says, next year they'll be digging up the downtown area for renovations, so they won't be making any decisions on anything else until that's been re-paved.

Bazinet adds, before they make any decisions they'll be talking with the Legion to see how they feel about a Veteran’s Cross Walk and what standards would be required. He says they've already been told that poppies are not allowed on a Veteran's Cross Walk, so they'll have to work with the Legion to see what is and is not acceptable. Location is something else they'll have to work out with the Legion. Some people have already suggested the cross walk should be on Kingston Street because the Legion's on Kingston Street. But a few people have suggested it should be on East Street because East Street is the path to the cenotaph.

So when the time comes they will definitely work with the Legion to find out what they would like to see.
