Goderich Council Asks For More Information Before Approving Funding for Menesetung Bridge

by Bob Montgomery

Goderich has asked for $150,000 to help with the restoration of the Menesetung Bridge but council has deferred a decision until their meeting on the 21st of October.

Mayor Trevor Bazinet says council wants more information about the conditions of the government grant and who else has committed funds before they make a final commitment. Bazinet adds, council is going to support the project, they just want more information about how much the town is eventually going to be asked for and where that money will come from.

Bazinet points out funding the Menesetung Bridge is not part of their strategic plan and it is not their asset, but this type of thing does pop up from time to time. They do recognize that it attracts a lot of people to the area and Huron County because it is a connecting link to Goderich, Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh and all through Huron County if you continue to walk on that trail. They certainly take that into consideration.

Bazinet also points out they have a lot of big projects on their plate right now, in particular the work downtown that will get underway next spring, so they have to keep that in mind and be fiscally responsible to the residents of Goderich.
