Fundraiser for Pedestrian Walkway to Bayfield River Flats

by Bob Montgomery

The Bayfield River Valley Trail Association and Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy are hosting a fundraiser next week to support the construction of a pedestrian walkway to the Bayfield River Flats.

Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy Past Chair Roger Lewington explains several years ago the Trail Association raised enough money to purchase five acres of land on the River Flats and then the land was transferred to the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy. But Lewington says what's missing is a safe walkway under the Bayfield River Bridge that would connect the community with the River Flats without people having to cross highway 21.

Lewington says Home & Company Real Estate has agreed to sponsor the Bayfield River Flats – Walkway to the Finish Line event. The Bayfield River Flats is owned by Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy and the land trust protects it permanently as a habitat for wildlife and as a recreation destination and they estimate they'll need about 52-thousand dollars to complete the Walkway.

The Walkway to the Finsh Line event is being held on December 13th in the Bayfield Town Hall from seven until nine. Lewington says they'll have a cash bar and a silent auction and the event will give people a chance to learn more about the pedestrian walkway. More information can also be found at this link.
