Exercise Your Body And Mind This Winter At The Huron County Museum

by Bob Montgomery

The Huron County Museum is inviting anyone who enjoys a good walk to step in out of the cold for their walk this winter.

Huron County Museum Curator of Engagement & Dialogue Sinead Cox says a lot of people like to walk on a regular basis but during the winter the sidewalks can be slippery or slushy or it can just be cold and windy. That doesn't have to prevent people from going for a walk. They can walk indoors at the Huron County Museum and play Scrabble while they're doing their walking.

The museum has provided a variety of routes, some with stairs and some that don't have stairs and you can choose the route you want at the front desk. Walkers can also look at the exhibits while they're walking. It’s all free for anyone who has a Huron County Library card. The walks are measured out so that three museum laps works out to one kilometre.

The walks are available during normal museum hours and Cox says the walks are a little easier during the week when the museum isn't as crowded as it is on the weekend. She says once a month they include a bit of a social gathering that includes free coffee and they also have a scrabble board that invites people to pick a letter as they do each loop. Once they have enough letters to make a word, the highest scoring word can win a prize each month during the winter.

They also have maps at the front desk that will tell you how many steps you're getting in. Cold weather is no longer an acceptable excuse for putting off your daily walk. More information can be found on the Huron County Museum website here.
