CEO Andrew Williams Presented A Report On The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance’s Environmental Stewardship Committee To The Board This Week

CEO Andrew Williams says the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance has always had a focus on the environment and made sure that they considered their impact on the environment when they made decisions.

Williams says over the years that has included things like electricity consumption and switching from hydro to natural gas. This past year they decided to formalize it a bit more and established an Environmental Stewardship Committee and part of their annual corporate plan is that they provide a report to the board. Williams says establishing the committee has really helped them engage their team in a really positive way around issues that they feel should be addressed as they relate to the environment.

Staff have really bought into the program and they've started developing a plan outlining some of the things they want to look at that will help them reduce their carbon footprint. He says they're already doing a lot of things that are resonating with their team as well as reinforcing the idea that hospitals have a significant role to play. They are net contributors to the carbon footprint and Williams says he believes they need to do a better job of identifying ways they can do better in that area.
