Central Huron has Final Budget Numbers

by Bob Montgomery

Central Huron council has finalized their 2024 budget.

Mayor Jim Ginn says the final approval for the budget will come at the second council meeting in April and the number that will be presented to council at that meeting will be an increase of 5.18% for the Central Huron portion. When that's combined with the education and the county rate, the overall increase is 4.3%.

Ginn adds, they didn't have to go into reserves to hold the increase at that number because they had a surplus from last year. “Every year we put our surplus into the next year's revenue, unlike the county, they put those dollars into reserves, but we don't. We just roll it into the next year,” Ginn says there's money in and out of reserves but basically they all remain constant.
