Central Huron Council Looking at Options to Address Possible Parking Issues in Downtown Clinton
by Bob Montgomery
Central Huron council was presented with a report from an engineering firm on the parking situation in the downtown core in Clinton at this week's council meeting.
Mayor Jim Ginn says the report will now go back to staff for their recommendations. “We have a couple of parking lots that are gravel, municipal properties, and we may in the future want to pave those parking lots with the possibility of leasing it out to tenants that don't have parking spaces. For instance, above the stores in the downtown where there's no space for them to park.”
Ginn says there's also a problem in some areas of the main street. He suspects in some cases it's a matter of how far people want to walk and there are also people who are parking for more than the two hours that's allowed. That could be employees or visitors, so that could come down to enforcement issues. He says he doesn't believe it's a serious problem but the spots on the main street are heavily used.
