Britespan Building Systems Inc. Makes Million Dollar Donation to Wingham & District Hospital CT Campaign

by Bob Montgomery

Britespan Building Systems in Wingham has just made history with the largest donation ever to the Wingham Hospital for their campaign for a CT Scanner.

Nicole Duquette is the Executive Director of the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation and she says the one million dollar donation from Britespan Building Systems is a great way for them to kick off their Caring Together Campaign for the CT Scanner. She says the goal for the campaign is 2.5 million dollars and thanks to the donation from Britespan, they're well on their way. She says Britespan co-owner Ben Hogervorst and his partner Rob Stute have been supporters of the Wingham Hospital for years and have been putting money away for several years now waiting for a special project, and they felt the Caring Together Campaign was the right fit.

Getting a CT Scanner will transform healthcare in their community, said Duquette, adding, until now people who needed a CT scan had to make the drive to Listowel, which is their sister hospital and has a CT scanner, and in good weather that's about a twenty minute drive. That could be longer in the winter and more dangerous. She says having their own CT scanner is essential in an emergency situation. Healthcare professionals are being trained on CT scanners, and it will make their hospital more attractive to potential new healthcare professionals. Duquette also says having a CT scanner in Wingham will not only be faster and safer then going to Listowel, but it will save the Wingham & District Hospital some money.

Duquette says the 2.5 million dollars they hope to raise will cover the cost of the CT scanner as well as the renovations to the hospital to allow them to use it. She's hoping the donation from Britespan will encourage others to get behind the Caring Together Campaign.

If anyone is interested in finding out more about the CT scanner, and the benefits it will provide at the Wingham & District Hospital, they can visit the Wingham & District Hospital Foundation website.
