Blyth Festival Teams Up With Maelstrom Winery To Celebrate Festival's 50th Anniversary Season

by Bob Montgomery

The Blyth Festival has partnered with Maelstrom Winery in celebrating the Festival's 50th Anniversary Season.

Director of Audience Development Jennifer Lamb says they've been working on the project for a few years and they recently invited theatre members from the area around the Winery to join board members in introducing two special wines to mark the anniversary. They designed special labels and Artistic Director Gil Garratt, and created new names for the wines. “The white wine is Frontenac Blanc and the red is Petite Pearl, so Gil renamed the red Maggie Pollock’s Potion in honour of one of our shows this season, the Trials of Maggie Pollock, and the white wine Golden Summer in honour of the Golden Anniversary, which is another play we're doing this season.”

Lamb says the wine wasn't quite ready for the night of the gathering but people pre-ordered 74 bottles of the wines and both wines will be available throughout the season at the Maelstrom Winery retail store and at the Festival's bar. A portion of the sale of each bottle will go back to the Festival as part of a fundraiser.
