Alice Munro Festival invites Huron County Students to Design a Book Cover

by Bob Montgomery

The Alice Munro Festival is inviting Huron County students to design a book cover.

Alice Munro Festival Chair Karen Stewart says students attending any school in Huron County are invited to showcase their creativity by using digital design tools to create a book cover with the theme “Lives of Girls and Women”. Stewart says the theme was chosen because The Lives of Girls and Women was one of Munro's most popular novels.

Stewart says a local judging panel will select the top three pieces of art based on interpretation of the theme, creativity and originality, quality of the design and overall impression of the art. Winners will receive cash prizes during a Festival event in Wingham on June 7th. First prize is $300, with a second and third prize of $200 and $100 respectively. The contest prizes are sponsored by Virtual High School in Bayfield.

The artwork will be showcased in an online exhibition on the Alice Munro Festival of the Short Story’s website. It will also be shown at each venue used for 2024 Festival activities from June 5th to June 9th.

The student’s original work has to be submitted to AMFSS.DigitalArt@gmail.com. by March 15.

More information can be found at the Alice Munro Festival website.
