Alexandra Marine And General Hospital Celebrates The Legacy Of Wilma Duckworth

Alexandra Marine & General Hospital has announced the retirement of Registered Practical Nurse Wilma Duckworth.

That's significant because Wilma has served the Goderich community for 45 years. She started with the Alexandra Marine & General Hospital in 1979 and her legacy at the hospital is marked by her unwavering commitment to patient care, her adaptability to the evolving healthcare environment, and her deep community ties. Her story is not just about her professional journey but also about her family's enduring relationship with AMGH, spanning generations.

“Wilma’s journey with us is not just a professional contribution but a heartfelt connection that has touched countless lives,” said Jimmy Trieu, President and CEO at Huron Health System. “As she embarks on her well-deserved retirement, we celebrate not only her achievements but also the legacy of care she leaves behind.”

Wilma's connection to AMGH is deeply rooted, starting from her birth just 20 minutes before her late husband Paul was born, with both their mothers sharing a room at the hospital. Paul's dedication to AMGH was evident through his 27 years of service alongside Wilma. Her life, from meeting Paul, raising two wonderful children, and welcoming grandchildren—all connected to AMGH—underscores her integral role in our community. Wilma's passion for healthcare is a legacy carried forward by her son, Dr. Mark Duckworth, who serves as a physician at both Alexandra Marine & General Hospital and Maitland Valley Medical Centre.

As Wilma steps into retirement, she looks forward to spending time with her grandchildren, indulging in plays, reading, volunteering, and travelling. Please join us in celebrating Wilma's remarkable career and the indelible mark she leaves on AMGH.
